Regarding: printed receipts

Patron Comment: Your policy of no due date on books, etc. is lazy and very poor service to patrons!

AADL Reply: Thank you for taking the time to send a comment card expressing your opinion about the elimination of date stamping library materials. While we do not intend to revert to the date stamping system, we are always working toward more efficient methods of handling materials. The receipt system accomplishes a number of things for library staff and the patron that we hope are, on balance, more efficient and informative. For example, many people do enjoy having a list of all materials checked out with date due for each on one slip. I realize that you would prefer having the date stamped on each item, and I am sorry that we cannot accomodate you. I do appreciate that you use the Library and are interested enough to let us know how you feel.

Regarding: catalog/searching

Patron Comment: I recently borrowed the original Star Wars Trilogy & was dissappointed to find that they were the "Special Editions" with added footage & in some cases completely removed scenes from the original release. While I would prefer to have the truly original films available they are no longer available for sale to my knowledge. Could you please clearly lable these "Special Edition" to alert other fans of the unaltered films? I would appreciate this courtesy to your patrons. Thank you.

AADL Reply: Thank you for your suggestion to relabel special edition video titles. We work to strike a balance with our labeling standards so that enough information is included without covering up industry labeling. When a video or DVD jacket includes information such as special edition or other unique information, our practice is to rely on that as adequate. Your suggestion has prompted us to explore other steps we can take to highlight unique descriptive information in our database, and I appreciate your taking the time to let us know how we can serve you better.

Regarding: computers

Patron Comment: On-line book request - when screen comes up to enter library card #, the program should have the cursor in position. User automatically starts typing, then realizes cursor has to be positioned, clicked, and then start typing. Also, on screen which reconfirms PIN #, cursor should be in position!

Patron Comment: As of November 21, 2003, the Loving Branch is already closed, but there is no information about it on your web page that lists all the branches (location and hours). Neither there is anything about the new branch to be open on Eisenhower. I suggest a prompt update of this info on your web pages.

AADL Reply: Thank you for alerting us to some problems with our website. The closing date for the Loving Branch has been extended to December 19 and the new Malletts Creek Branch will open on January 10, 2004. The links to the updated information were indeed not working and we apologize for any inconvenience. If I can be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Regarding: compliment

Patron Comment: I want to compliment a young lady named Terry who helped me facing a deadline on Saturday, Nov. 8. I was trying to use the word processor and doing a very poor job of it. I am computer illiterate when it comes to this. She helped me at least 20 times cheerfully and competently in the space of 30-40 minutes.

AADL Reply: Thank you so much for your card letting us know about the great service you received using the computer at the Loving Branch. I will be sure to let Terry and her supervisor know that you were pleased. It is always such a lift to get a compliment from our patrons. Thank you again for taking the time to let us know that you had a positive experience. I hope we see you in the new computing center at the Malletts Creek Branch after January 10, 2004.

Patron Comment: Please install Apple QuickTime on the computers. Without it I could not view www.bushin30seconds.com

AADL Reply: Thank you for contacting the Ann Arbor District Library with your request to have Apple Quick Time installed on our public access computers. We are transitioning to a new set of servers, and plan to install Apple Quick Time in the Spring. I hope that you continue to use our computing services in the meantime. Thank you again for your comments. We appreciate knowing how we can better serve our patrons.
