One important point in keeping a farm ïlear from weeds is to see that these errns are not iuiported in purchased íeeds. Weeds are often inti-oduced by the farmer's own animáis. Elorses thó.t lave been fed at the town stables, and ïattle that have been allowed to forage an the high ways, may each be themeans if bringing obnoxious weeds onto the farm. For the hoed crops cloan cnltivation is the antidote. Cut tho weeds oö it the surface of the ground at a time svhen they are at their best - that is, at the time of flowering and before the seed has jrown sufficient to germanate. This is the best method of dealing with seeds where they have become a pest in meaddws and pastures. In the latter sheep we VBry efficiënt weed destroyers, as they will browse closely many varieties that cattle will not touch. LJnless rich ground is closely covered with useful plants it is quite certain to produce weeds. Nothing surpasses clover for smotheriug weeds. If sown thickly, and stock is kept off from it af ter the mowing, so that some of the seed from the second erop will be scattered, it will cain complete possession of the field, to the exclusión of weeds.
