For a short time on Wednesday evenng the heavens indioated that AnnArhor was about to have a very large fire. 3wing to the efficiency of the fire de)artment the fire was extinguished with soniparatively little daniage, probably ïot exceeding $1,000. At 11 :30 p. m. fire was discovered in ;he small sfcraw shed of John Eisele, in ;he rear of his store on Detroit Street. iu alarm was given and the fire dejartnient responded promptly. Seven ïundred feet of hose were laid and five streams of water played on the fire. The barns of Xavier Zachman, John Bisele and that of the Boylan estáte were all one mass of flames, the reflection of the fire lighting up the heavens as bright as day. The firemen succeed5d in saving all the adjoiniug property. The frame work of the barns are still standing. The horse of Marión Goodale, who used the Boylan barn, was saved. He lost his harness and the oi] svagon used in his business was greatly darnaged. If the wind prevailing in the afternoon had not gone down, the Arlington block and the stores on Detroit street would have been swept away. There was little if any insurance on property destroyed. The water compa'ny can be congratulated on the gooc water supply, the pressure being excellent. In this dry season a full water supply cannot be over estimated. The successful efforts of the water company to inr-rease its supply must be praisec by all fair minded citizens.
