Images instantly evoke annual Summer Festival

This year, all Burgard’s posters for the Summer Festival will be on display in the lobby of the Power Center during the weeks of the event.

Remember the poster with the lady bug? Or the ice cream cone in the second year? “I gradually tried to get it to just be images of summer,” he says.

Every year, Burgard will bring sue ideas for posters, and the final decision is up to the festival director.

“People used to ask me, ‘Don’t you run out of ideas?”’ says Burgard. “I would say it’s gotten easier. Now, I know what my goals are, and there are just millions of ideas.”

He says he’s willing to do the posters as long as the board is interested in having them.

Festival director Evy Warshawski says the posters are part of the event. “Marketing is everything,” she says, “and part of marketing is branding, and Bill is a part of that. Bill’s been a part of that for 20 years.”

But she doesn’t rule out changes, whether that means someone else doing the posters or not having posters at all.

After all, says Warshawski, the festival has a backlog of posters and T-shirts which will be for sale at the Top of the Park this year, along with Burgard’s latest.
