On ïriday night, June 29 bh, the residence of Mr. I). M. Uhl, about a inile east of this city, was entered in the night time by some persons unknown. The object of this nocturual visttatkm was not plunder, for nothing was missed from the house. A malicious destruction of property seems to have boen the only motive Apparel to the value of $150, chiefly belonging to a Miss Culver, a relative, and an inmate of the faraily, and to a small daughter of Mrs. Uhl, was cut so as to be reudcred completely worthless. Nothing that tha misereants oould lay their hands on - shocs, dresses, or what not - was spared. A note was left, to the effect that tho visit was iutended more for Miss Gulver than any one clse, and that, had she boen t'ound in the house, - as it was supposed ehe was, but which fortunately she was not on that night - aha would have been murdcred' What tho object of the outrage and threatencd violence was, is unknown, but suspicion rests upon a person whom we areoctat liberty to mention until further investigations have been Ypnhnii ITerald.
