Mrs. Stubbins At The Organ Console

First Methodist Honors Organist

Mary McCall Stubbins has begun her second quarter-century as organist at First Methodist Church following an anniversary recital and reception last Sunday.

At the reception, the church presented Mrs. Stubbins with an original painting, and the choir gave her a loose leaf master copy of the Methodist Hymnal for console use.

Mrs. Stubbins, a native of Chicago, started playing piano recitals while still in elementary school. She started pipe organ study while in high school, studying with the late Edgar Nelson, and began church organist work at age 16 in a Chicago suburban church.

After coming to Ann Arbor, she played the organ at First Congregational Church before going to First Methodist Church in 1942.

Mrs. Stubbins is married to Prof. William H. Stubbins of the U-M School of Music. They are the parents of two daughters, Sara and Martha, both students at the University.

Host and hostesses at the anniversary reception were: Prof. Leslie Bassett, chairman of the church’s commission on worship, and Mrs. Bassett; Richard C. Webber, chairman of the music committee, and Mrs. Webber; Prof. and Mrs. Harold Haugh, and the Rev. Hoover Rupert, representing the staff.

Other host and hostesses were: Mrs. Wilbur K. Pierpont, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hills, Dr. and Mrs. Stuart M. Gould Jr., Mrs. J. T. Tarboux, Mr. and Mrs. David Byrd, Mrs. John Worley, Prof. and Mrs. Glenn Mastin, Mrs. Harry B. White, Mrs. John Carow, and Mrs. Charles Parish.
