Hurón High, Scarlett Junior High and Green-Glacier Way Elementary Schools will be open for business in September- if there are no spring labor strikes. And according to Planner-Expediter Sooren Gozmanian's monthly progress report last night, this is a big "if." "There is no way of knowing for sure whether there will be a strike May 1 or not," Gozmanian said last night. "Negotiations are presently going on," he added, but the actual hardcore bargaining will not begin for another month or so. Gozmanian frankly admitted, however, that if there is a labor strike, the schools might not open in September. In fact, "if a strike does take place," he commented, "it is highly unlikely that Huron High will open in September." Trustee William C. Godfrey commented that rumors of a strike have been increasing lately. At the present time, however, "work is progressing quite satisfactorily" at Huron High, according to the planner-expediter. Finishing touches are being put on the educational wings, painting and final masonry is continuing, and glass installations are scheduled for next week, he reported. At Scarlett Junior High, things are also "progressing very satisfactorily." Paving outside the school will begin as soon as the weather improves, and the "fina touches" are being put on the school. By next week, Gozmanian added, a permanent head custodian will be on duty at the new junior high. At Green-Glacier Way Elementary, "masonry work is in progress," and the brick-laying is progressing. The educational wings of Green-Glacier are slated to be completed and open in September, though Gozmanian agreedj this is a verv "tieht srhp.dule."]
