The string of arsons which began in University buildings late last month continued over the weekend with the Ann Arbor Fire Department called out on another five fires. Fire Chief Arthur L. Stauch said all the latest fires were minor in nature but again warned that the danger of a serious blaze which could cost lives increases with each arson. Iwo of the fires were set almost simultaneously last night on the second and third floors of the Michigan Union, 530 S. State St. Chief Stauch said the fires were set in hallways and consisted of crap pai.er which was ignited. Earlier at 4:30 a.m. yesterday an arsonist set a chair afire in the Louis Strauss Memorial Library in the U-M's West Quadrangle. A dormitory employé carried the burning chair outside and put out the flames but not before drapes and a wall in the library were damaged by thü fire, firefighters said. Sáturday night two separate fires were set in rest rooms in the South Quadrangle with paper, towels as the fuel. Chief Stauch said there may be oiher minor fires which his department has not been called about. He said Fire Marshal John R. Williams and the inspectors in the department's Fire Prevention Bureau are working with city pólice detectives in an effort to apprehend the arsonist. The chief said since Jan. 27 there have been 15 fires of suspicious origin in University buildings. A number of the fires have occurred in University libraries and because of this f act officials have announced a I tailing of open hours. The Undergraduate Library will now close at midnight each night. However the fourth floor containing part of the Engineering School stacks and the print gnllery will be closed at 6 p.m. Sunday through Friday and all day Saturday. The Harlan Hatcher Graduate Library will be open from 8 a.m. to midnight Monday through Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday. On Sundays the Graduate Library will be open from 1 to 10 p.m. The U-M Medical Library will close at io p.m. Monday through Friday and on Sunday. Police Chief Walter E.
