Rev. J. Hudson's Letter

In our paper of July 14, we published aa article on the conneclion of the Methodist E. Church with Slavery, in which we took the ground, , 1. That that Church, as a Body, of its own free will, have voluntanly upheld and supported tho Slavery of nearly one hundred thousand of its members. 2. That the representativos of the Church assembled in Genera] Conference, yoted o deprive a large portion of their brethrcn and; sisters of one of the rights given to them by Jesus Christ, that of complaining to the, Church of an injury received from members of the same church. This rule operateB oppressively on man y thousands of the colored, members of that. denojnination. 3. That the course taken by the authorities of that Church towards the abolitionists, generally, has been in in any rcepects, unjug. tifiable and oppressive. In conscquence of this honcst expression, of our opinión on these points, tho Ilev. J. Huüson. of this place, has eent u;s a com munication, vvhich will be fonrid in anolher column. If ho convinces the Presby. terian Cprch of its sin, we hope it will rcpenl and reform, With these remarles, wc louve the letter to the good senso of our readers, simply observing, that ehould any furthor communication be recoived, respecting the positions we have taken ahove, aud writtenin a proper spirit, we shall pay that atlention to it which its argumenta may scem to require. But we shal} not feel ourselves obliged to iïll up our columns with personal abuse of ourselves or of any religioue denominatton.
