Description

Broadway Park West

"The project comprises 7 acres of land formerly owned by Michigan Consolidated Gas Company and operated as a coal-gasification facility in the early 20th Century. The first step in creating Broadway Park West is the completion of a full environmental clean-up of the land to residential standards. When the project is complete, the park will offer connecting pathways throughout the site, an ice ribbon, a pedestrian bridge to the Argo Cascades, event lawns, and a year-round pavilion for community gatherings and entertainment. The park's centerpiece will be the Commons - a 2-acre, tree-lined, elliptical lawn that will sit adjacent to a 1,200-foot riverfront trail, connecting Broadway Park West to Washtenaw County’s Border to Border trail system.

The vision for this development started in 2014 with Gerry Anderson, former CEO of DTE, partnering with the Detroit-based Roxbury Group. The effort began with a community engagement effort that involved over 60 public meetings with over 400 residents and business owners. From this process, a vision for the development emerged that included four primary goals:

• Building on natural assets
• Creating a community gathering place
• Connecting neighborhoods
• Ensuring an economically sustainable conservancy-led park model"
