Centennial: Century marks are always celebrated, and Monday was no exception at the Huron View lodge nursing home where long-time Ann Arbor businessman Gottlob Hertler celebrated his 100th birthday. Ice cream, cake, friends and relatives were in evidence as Hertler, above, prepared to blow out the candles on his cake. Hertler, with two brothers, George Hertler Sr. - who died in 1963 - and Herman Hertler, founded the Hertler Brothers store at 210 S. Ashley St. in 1906. The store, owned by Mark Hodesh since late 1974, specializes in farm and garden supplies. Herman Hertler also lives at the lodge.

Proceeds from tomorrow's salad luncheon given for the public by the King's Daughters will support projects such as this party at University Hospital School. Hospitals are a major concern of the King's Daughters, who have donated the books and furnished the children's library at the new C. S. Mott Children's Hospital in the University Medical Center. CUPCAKE BREAK - Mark Carlson, 3, of Ann Arbor, enjoys a cupcake during the afternoon Picnic Pops Concert at Pioneer High School Saturday. The concert was the 17th annual one of its kind and it featured, as usual, musicians from the Ann Arbor high schools and intermediate schools. Refreshments were sold during the day-long event. The proceeds will be used to help pay the costs of the Pioneer and Huron band students when they spend a week at Interlochen National Music Camp this summer.
