Warming Up: Rehearsing for "Praising God in Song," Sunday's concert at Second Baptist Church, are Adult Choir members (from left) pianist Luanna Slay, Deanna Thomas, organist Rory Dabney, Maurice Townsel, Sandra Harris, Ron Perry and Jean Fonville. The concert will be presented at 4 p.m. in the church, 850 Red Oak, Ann Arbor. Pastor Emmett L. Green invites the public to attend.
Sandra Harris was born in 1952 in West Virginia, where her father was a coal miner. Her family moved to Ann Arbor when she was in second grade. Harris remembers being on the homecoming court at Pioneer High School and participating in student-led marches during the late 1960s. She received her bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees from Eastern Michigan University. She was a school administrator in the Ann Arbor Public Schools as well as other districts. In addition to her service as an educator, she was also a longtime caretaker for her nephew and her mother.

Deacon Richard Garland, along with Kendall Tucker, holding lantern, walk in the 7th annual Unity March that brought out about 400 participants. The march began at the Washtenaw County building in downtown Ann Arbor and ended at Second Baptist Church on 850 Red Oak in Ann Arbor.
