It was a day to remember for Huron High and Pioneer High hockey players because Detroit Red Wings Dennis Hextall (left, top photo) [this photo] and Terry Harper made a visit to the Veterans Park Arena for a clinic. After the clinic on fundamentals, the Wings went into the locker room to talk with the preps about education and hockey. The clinic was coordinated by Ann Arbor's Dave McGuigan who is employed by the Wings. In the lower photo, Harper (left) and Hextall (center) demonstrate stick work.

It's Lighter Softball Again: Under-light competition for local softball and baseball players is now reality following last night's Recreation League competition at Veterans Park where a $36,000 double-purpose lighting system has been installed to illuminate one softball and one baseball diamond. The picture at left, with Victors in field and Parke-Davis batting, shows two of the eight banks for softball. The picture at right, [this photo] showing Parke-Davis First-Sacker Bill Henry awaiting suggests the candlepower is plentiful. Softballers will have the lights to themselves for a couple of weeks bur the baseballers will be in action under the arcs by the middle of the month. There will be nights when softball and baseball contests will be played simultaneously. The unlighted pole in picture at left is one of eight used for baseball.
