Customers at Goodyear's Department Store, 122 S. Main, are finding that frequently they are getting songs with their gift-wrapping service during the pre-Christmas period. The reason is that several members of the Ann Arbor High School A Cappella Choir have been employed as gift-wrappers. Other girls also employed for wrapping have been worked into the singing phases.

Charlie The Chihuahua With Christmas Mail, December 1972 Photographer: Cecil Lockard
Year:
1972
Published In:
Ann Arbor News, December 22, 1972
Caption:
Like her mailman master, Cal Foster of 401 Mark Hannah Place, Charlie - short for Tammi Charlie, not Charlotte or Charlene - thrives on daily mail deliveries. According to Mrs. Foster, the eight-year-old chihuahua grabs the mail as the postman puts it through the mail slot and delivers it to the Fosters. Occasionally, she has been known to grab the postman's glove along with the mail, but it's all in fun. Unlike her master, Charlie is very enthused about the large quantity of mail the Christmas season brings. It means lots of letters and a new red Santa suit.

Main igloo yesterday. One of the triplets, Nancy, a bit handicapped by a broken leg, is seated on her mother's lap. The other triplets (left to right) are Tina and Rachel.

Children Admire A Miniature Train At The Tompkins Annual Christmas Party, December 1948
Year:
1948
Published In:
Ann Arbor News, December 18, 1948

ALL EYES ON MINIATURE TRAIN: A miniature village, complete with electric train, hospital, houses, an elevator, trucks, ambulance, cars and planes, focuses the attention of the above third grade pupils from University Elementary School who were guests of Bobbie Tompkins at a Christmas party this week. The recreation room in the home of Bobbie's parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Tompkins, 1795 S. State St., was turned over to the youngsters who found an almost limitless number of toys to play with. From left to right above are Phillip Tanner, Bobbie's cousin; Joanne Ivory, Jane Litzenberg, Bobbie Tompkins, Ann Coleman, Jackie Peterson, Sue Greenman, Jon Lopez, Cubbie Eggertsen, Wayne Van Wagoner, Mary Craig (just the ruffle on Mary's dress, her hand, and the tip of her nose show), and Penny Foster. The girl with her back to the camera is Starlett Tanner, another cousin of Bobbie. At the far right, the hand and the forehead which it is rubbing belong to Jimmy Stockard, and it's Allison Dempster who is peering over the shoulders of Mary and Penny. Each child was presented with a gift at the party from a large Christmas tree. The party is an annual affair and was given this year for the third time.
