Unhappy Scene In 'Happy Times' - This scene from the Ann Arbor Civic Theatre's production of "Happy Time" indicates that not everything is always happy. Here the Bonnard family gathers around Grandpa, played by A. B. Crandell (second from left), who has just injured himself. Others are (left to right) Jack Wall, Don Hawley, G. David Sellards, all sons of Grandpa, and Mickey Sager, a grandson. Also featured in the play is the water cooler held by Sellards. Supposedly filled with wine in the play, the cooler was found in Dexter and is believed to one of the few still around. "Happy Time" opens tomorrow night at the Lydia Mendelssohn Theater and continues through Saturday.

Youngsters in the neighborhood of 811 Packard St. have formed their own "Victory Club" and, strictly on their own initiative, have been scouring the area for scrap paper, rags, rubber and metal. They have collected tin cans, too, flattening them according to salvage regulations. In the picture are, front row, left to right, Charles Bauman, Jack Wall and Elbert Dickman; back row, Marvin Dickman, the president; Lavonne Dickman, treasurer; Norma Shipman, Norma Rich, Jimmy Gorton and Dale Rich, vice-president and secretary. Seven-year-old Dick Westphal missed the picture. He went home to change his clothes and got back too late. The scrap is piled at the rear of the Dickman home, 811 Packard St.

Above is a group of Dexter boys who are always on hand when free, sweet cider flows from a 50-gallon barrel at the Otto Wagner mill, along the Huron river. In one afternoon these boys, together with other groups, consumed 16 gallons of free cider. The proprietor says that the boys would be there yet, with upturned mugs, the facial as well as the glass varieties, if it hadn't been necessary to close up the mill for the night. The boys shown in the picture are, reading from left to right: Charles Mosher, Jack Wall, Alvin Kolander, Arthur Bell, James Bell, and Vincent La Rosa.
