LAUNCHING MODEL PLANES IN HIGH WIND: With a 19-mile-per-hour wind preventing the usual take-offs from ground, competitors launched their planes directly into the air in the model airplane meet at the airport here yesterday. ANN ARBOR BOY ENTERS NATIONAL MODEL PLANE MEET: George Jaeger, 16-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. George Jaeger of 411 Virginia Ave., will enter this gas model plane in a national contest next week at the Wayne county airport, sponsored by the Detroit Exchange. The plane has a seven and one-half foot wing span, is five feet long and weighs five and.....pounds. It was constructed of cloth and wood from a kit of prepared materials and is powered with a one-cylinder gas engine. With a full tank, the plane will fly out of sight, but the.........limit the engine's use and put a premium on the plane's gliding qualities. The ship takes off from the ground, and its owner must be licensed by the National Aeronautical association to fly it. Tested this morning on the municipal golf course, the model performed to the satisfaction of its owner.
