"Playful- All of Art's "graduates" live at home with their handlers, many of whom have small children, so it is essential that the dogs be basically friendly animals. The handlers consider them pets as well as professional colleagues. The playful side of the dogs is demonstrated below left by Charles Art as he frolics with Duke, and by Skavdahl, below right, with Blackie, who is taking time off from a busy training session to relax and roll on the grass in Art's back yard. Because of the selection and training process the handlers have absolutely no qualms about allowing the dogs free rein of the house, even when there are small children present, as there are in many of the homes."
