While the new Holy Ghost Fathers Seminary's first class is taking preliminary study for the priesthood in the former LaPointe home at 4133 Washtenaw Rd. (square building, center), the new buildings for the larger complete seminary are rising around it. In News Photographer Maitland LaMotte's aerial view, the U-shaped structure in foreground will be the high school building. Dormitories, now in use, are beyond the house, and the chapel framework is at right of the dormitories. Henry deKoning of Ann Arbor is the contractor for the $500,000 project. Washtenaw Ave. cuts across the lower right corner of picture.

Aerial Photograph of Ann Arbor Woods, Howard Johnson Restaurant, and Lamp Post Motel, June 1957

Area of Change: There have been many changes along E. Stadium Blvd. near Washtenaw Ave. since last year at this time, as this aerial photograph reveals. Nearly 40 homes have been built by the Slavik firm of Detroit in Ann Arbor Woods. To the right of the Howard Johnson restaurant, just off Stadium near the bottom, is the first unit under construction of a new motel. It will be the Lampost Motel and will house 34 rooms. Builders Roberts and Brown expect to expand it to 67 units in the future. Ann Arbor Woods eventually will include 300 houses, so it appears as if there will be more changed here long before next year at this time. This also is the arch of a proposed shopping center disputed in City council meetings.

Proposed Shopping Center Site: The outlined area shown here has been proposed as the site of the million-dollar shopping center in western Ypsilanti township, but the Township Zoning Board last night voted against approving a permissive zoning change. The 4.77-acre site is bounded on the north by Washtenaw Rd.; Hewitt Rd. (bottom) on the west and Rosedale Ave. on the east. Plans call for a 17-store center with parking for 304 cars. Developers may appeal the zoning board's action or build low-cost houses.
