TRAFFIC BACKUPS MOUNT ON MAIN: A massive traffic jam late Friday afternoon on Ann Arbor's Main Street resulted from faulty traffic light sequencing stemming from the city's conversion to a computerized sequencing system. According to the city's Traffic Engineering Department, work on the new system is continuing and "unavailable" delays may occur until the conversion is complete. The project is not expected to be completed for several months. Ann Arbor Police said Friday's traffic jam, viewed here from the corner of Liberty and Main, created hazards for motorists and informed theTraffic Department of the situation. The traffic Department said the area will be kept under observation in the future and steps will be taken if major difficulties occur.
