Special Premiere Of 'Wake Island' Set For Sept. 23

Admission To Be By Purchase Of War Bonds Only

Regular Tickets Will Not Be Sold For Showing In State Theater

Ann Arbor will have the first "bond premiere" in the city's history a week from Wednesday when "Wake Island," the motion-picture story of the marines who begged for "more Japs" to fight comes to the State theater.

This is the film which is being used for "bond premieres" in other cities, including Detroit, throughout the United States.

Seats For Bonds Only

When the film opens at 9 o'clock Wednesday night, Sept. 23, at the State, no seats will be available for cash, but admission will be free to anybody who has bought a War bond at one of the city's five movie houses between now and the premiere.

If the theater is filled, the audience will have contributed a total of $225,000 in bonds.

One section of the theater will be reserved for purchasers of $500 and $1,000 bonds. Another section will be set aside for purchasers of $100 bonds. The majority of seats will be held for purchasers of $25 and $50 bonds.

All seats will be reserved. Starting today, anyone who buys a bond at one of the theaters will receive a printed stub. Beginning Sept. 20, he will be able to exchange the stub for a reserved seat ticket at the State box office.

Can Fill Out Books

The city’s theater managers hope that the "bond premiere" will result in hundreds of uncompleted $18.70 stamp books being filled out. A person who has a partly filled book can obtain a ticket to the premiere by presenting his book plus enough additional money to buy a bond at any of the theaters.

The “bond premiere” is part of the nation-wide program for "Salute to Our Heroes Month,” which is aimed at pushing September sales of War bonds and stamps up to the billion-dollar mark.

The theater division of the war activities committee of the Motion Picture Producers Association is furnishing "Wake Island” without charge for "bond premiers" in key spots all over the country.
