EVELYN HARWOOD BECOMES BRIDE OF DR. H. T. SCHMALE

The marriage of Miss E. Evelyn Harwood, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Harwood of Marshall, to Dr. Herbert T. Schmale, son of Rev. and Mrs. Theodore R. Schmale of S. Fourth Ave., took place Saturday afternoon at Christ Episcopal church, Los Altos, Calif., Rev. Albert Olson officiating.

Attending the couple were Miss Dorothy Wick of San Francisco and Dr. Floyd Due of Alameda, Calif.

The bride wore a white gabardine street-length dress with a cream colored wool coat, a white lacey straw hat trimmed with grosgrain, and white spectator pumps. Miss Wick was attired in a pale blue wool suit completed by a cream-pink chiffon blouse and matching accessories.

A graduate of Marshall High school, Hillsdale College, and the University, Mrs. Schmale worked as psychiatric social worker at the University hospital Neuropsychiatric Institute until entering the American Red Cross. After one year of chapter service at Bay City, she joined the military welfare service of the Red Cross and was assigned to the 298th general hospital, University of Michigan unit.

In France, Belgium

With the hospital, Mrs. Schmale served in Bristol, England; Cherbourg, France, and Liege, Belgium, later being transferred to American Red Cross headquarters in Paris. Since her return to the States late last summer, she has continued to serve in the Red Cross as case work supervisor at Dibble General hospital, Menlo Park, Calif.

Dr. Schmale is a graduate of the University medical school and is specialized in psychiatry. He was a member of the Neuropsychiatric Institute staff at the University hospital prior to his military service. A captain in the Army Medical Corps, he served with the 298th general hospital in England, France, and Belgium as a member of the psychiatric service.

Dr. Schmale more recently became chief psychiatrist at the 15th general hospital in Liege, Belgium, and just before returning to the United States was senior psychiatrist at the Rehabilitation Training Center in Brussels, Belgium. He returned to the States in December and is now on terminal leave.

Dr. and Mrs. Schmale are honeymooning in Carmel-by-the-Sea, Calif., and are expected to arrive in Michigan sometime this month.
