Pfc. Fletcher On Way Home
Pfc. Fletcher On Way Home
Ypsilanti-Pfc. Robert W. Fletcher, first and only Washtenaw county soldier to be repatriate in the Korean prisoner exchange, is flying home and slated to land today in Chicago.
Fletcher's mother, Mrs. Mae Woodson of 1032 Monroe Ave., received a telegram with the news yesterday, the same day that the first shipload of repatriated Americans docked in San Francisco.
Mrs. Woodson watched the landing and welcoming ceremonies from the studios of Detroit television station WWJ-TV. She said she was unable to see her son among the returnees and that several efforts to contact him in San Francisco failed.
Mrs. Woodson said her son's telegram did not reveal the time of his plane's arrival in Chicago. It is believed, however, that he will fly on to Willow Run Airport shortly thereafter.
Ypsilanti American Legionnairs, meanwhile, are planning a reception for Fletcher here.
