Spring Start On Arborland Center Eyed
Construction work on the proposed $5,000,000 Arborland Shopping Center “is expected to begin no later than the spring of 1959,” John J. Sharemet, Ann Arbor realtor and developer of the center, said today.
The center is to be built on about a 28-acre tract along the north side of Washtenaw Ave. and opposite the entry to Pittsfield Village.
It will contain between 30-40 stores with approximately 300,000 square feet of floor space, Sharemet said.
The center’s stores are expected to radiate from a central one which would contain a department store.
Sharemet said he is negotiating with national chain stores and has received inquiries from more than 80 possible tenants.
As envisioned by Sharemet, Arborland “will be a one-stop center where all consumer items may be purchased.”
Sharemet pubilcly disclosed in 1956, plans to build Arborland.
The Ann Arbor City Council last Sept. 3 granted “C” local business zoning for 25.78 acres on which, most of the center would be built.
