Site For Fireworks Still Up in the Air
Site for fireworks still up
Things are still up in the air about whether the rockets’ red glare will be lighting up the skies over Ann Arbor Airport during this year’s Independence Day celebration.
Gelman Sciences Inc, was hoping to revive the fireworks display and air-show this July 3 after a three-years hiatus. But the Scio Township company seems to be having a hard time getting together with Pittsfield Township officials, who will have the final say-so on the event. Township officials didn’t show up this morning at a meeting with representatives from Gelman, the city of Ann Arbor, the airport, the Ann Arbor Jaycees and fire and police departments to decide whether the airport will be the site for the fireworks show.
“I was not aware of a meeting,” said Pittsfield Township Public Safety Director Ray LeCornu.
“The airport site is definitely not locked in,” Bill Dawson, Gelman Sciences’ manager of corporate communications, said this morning.
