Fall Festival

Cobblestone Farm Association will demonstrate old crafts

The Cobblestone Farm Association will hold its fourth annual “Fall Festival” at the Farm, 2781 Packard Rd. at Buhr Park from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

As in past years, demonstrations and displays of old-fashioned handicrafts will take place on the farm grounds - hand-weaving, spinning, quilting, rug-hooking, apple-head doll making, stenciled. Tole painting, candlemaking and cider pressing.

A hearth rug created especially for Cobblestone Farm by the Ann Arbor Chapter of the National Pearl J. McGowan Hookcrafter Guild will be on display inside the farm house. The rug is based on a 200-year-old design called “The Cat’s Paw,” which enables the creators to utilize a variety of materials from woolen garments and blankets.

The Cobblestone Country Dancers under the direction of David Park Williams will perform authentic 19th century dances derived from the New England colonial tradition. Tours of the house will be conducted by members of the Cobblestone Farm Association, and the Association hopes to have a horse-drawn wagon available to provide children with rides around the farm grounds.

A “collectibles” table will offer an assortment of items for sale, and farm-fresh cider and donuts will be sold to benefit the restoration fund for the 1844 home. Persons with items to contribute for the collectibles table may contact Mrs. John Naylor at 663-7872 to arrange delivery to her home at 2332 Georgetown Blvd.

Parking will be available at the rear of the farm grounds in Buhr Park and in the lot of the Seventh Day Adventist church across Packard Road.
