Description
Imagine walking across a forest path perfumed by the smell of moss, moist earth, and fallen leaves. This delightful aromatic mélange is found in oakmoss absolute, an ingredient that is derived from a type of lichen used in perfumery. Oakmoss defines the “chypre” category of perfumes, which includes memorable classics such as Mitsouko by Guerlain, Miss Dior by Christian Dior, and Chanel No. 19. We’ll explore these classic fragrances as well as modern chypre perfumes that elevate the art of perfumery with their haunting radiant beauty.
The Smell and Tell series of lectures is led by Michelle Krell Kydd, a trained nose in flavors and fragrance who shares her passion for gastronomy and the perfume arts on Glass Petal Smoke. The Smell and Tell series debuted at the Ann Arbor District Library in 2012 and is ongoing.
