Description

There’s a disruptive quality in the familiar that is capable of provoking sensory bias when we think we “know” something in the absolute sense. We accept the familiar as “right” and shut the door to discovery and different points of view. This is something everyone experiences, but if you observe bias as it transpires you have the power to transform it. Discovering this truth through your sense of smell has an added benefit—it can be a catalyst for transforming bias in human relationships.

Learn how to uncover personal barriers to objectivity using your sense of smell and “The Flower of Conscious Smelling, “ a visual developed by Michelle Krell Kydd for the Ann Arbor community. Aromatic materials curated for this event are found in food, drink and nature. They have been selected for their beauty and provocative complexity.

The Smell and Tell series of programming is led by Michelle Krell Kydd, a trained nose in flavors and fragrance who shares her passion for gastronomy and the art of perfumery on Glass Petal Smoke [https://glasspetalsmoke.blogspot.com]. Smell & Tell debuted at the Ann Arbor District Library in 2012 and is known for the unique way it incorporates the sense of smell to enhance learning and build community through storytelling.
