Veterans Park, located on Maple Road between Dexter and Jackson Ave., is now one of the most modern softball and hardball recreation parks in the state. New lights have been installed on three of the five diamonds which makes it possible for ten games a night to be played at the facility. More than 150 teams will play at this park sometime this summer. There are two softball diamonds and three for hardball games. There is a doubleheader on each diamond every week night with Connie Mack competition and softball exhibitions on Saturdays. More than 500 spectators a night turn out to see the major softball leaguers play. The park wil be the site of the 1970 American Softball Association's Class 'A' State Championship Series on August 7, 8 and 9. The top softball teams in the state will be competing in this tourney. More than 12,000 spectators are expected. Last year Ann Arbor hosted the Class B tourney.

PLEASURABLE BUSINESS: These boys are doing a hot job the cool way as they wash a bicycle in the Huron River at Island Park. It's one way to make fun out of work these steaming June days, and a lot of envious adults no doubt wish they could somehow manage to do their daily chores in such a cooling setting.

GENERATE OWN BREEZE: It looks like hot work, but these youngsters at least are stirring up a breeze as they give an Island Park merry-go-round a workout. City parks are getting plenty of use during the current record-breaking heat wave which, incidentally, caught the Park Department with its wading pools dry.
