THE WATER'S FINE, ESPECIALLY ON HOT DAYS: The Huron river, at Newkirk Reservation, affords facilities for two swimming areas and boating both above the dam and along the mill race. The picture above, taken from the dam, shows the more shallow swimming area used by the boys who are learners. They are shown paired off in a buddy system under which each checks on the other while in the water. One of the two camp canoes is in the background.

OLD GLORY RAISED AT CAMP NEWKIRK: As part of the citizenship teaching of Boy Scout work, scouts at camp raise the flag each morning and lower it at sundown with appropriate ceremony. Russell Reuter, a local scout living at 1727 Charlton Ave., is shown above handling the flag ropes. The bugler is Hal Whittemore, 1920 Norway Rd., and the boys standing at attention are Robert Fry, 318 N. Ingalls (left), and Earl Burt, Route 3, Ann Arbor. A corner of the main building may be seen at the right.
