Welfare League Sale Offer Rejected
The City Council last night said it is not interested in purchasing the Colored Welfare League building at 209-211 N. Fourth Ave. at a price of $23,500.
The matter had been pending for several months, the league believing the city wished to buy the building for extension of an alley. City Administrator Guy C. Larcom Jr. said the alley would be the only use the city would have for the land and indicated the property which the alley would cover is worth only $8,000.
He also said the city had been unsuccessful in getting adjacent property owners to participate to any considerable amount in the purchase of the building.
