DORMITORY FUNDS INVESTED: Mrs. S. Beach Conger, secretary of the Michigan Alumnae Association, is pictured above presenting a check for $40,000 to Giles Cavanaugh, Detroit internal revenue collector and state administrator of defense bond and stamp sales. Mrs. Conger also is a member of the state defense savings committee. The check represents money in the Henderson Memorial Fund, established by the Alumnae Association to build a co-operative women's dormitory. Unable to construct it now because of priority restrictions, the funds are being invested in defense savings bonds.

"Red" is showing off his garden at 410 W. Washington St., which he says is one of the best "if not the best" in the city. Numerous friends and neighbors who have viewed it are inclined to agree with the veteran police official in his estimate of his plot.

Preketes had heard a lot about the war and the money needed for victory, so she said to her father, "Daddy, why can't I put my money in defense bonds and stamps and help Uncle Sam win?" Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Anthony N. Preketes, 111 Fairview Ave., agreed, and yesterday Demetra invested her "$50 in American victory. She is shown at the Ann Arbor bank, accompanied by her father, as J. A. McMillan, a teller, gives her the bonds and stamps.

With each book read, a member can hop a 1,000 miles toward his goal. Looking to see who has already arrived at the island are Mary Lou, Susie and Sally Ellsworth, sisters, living at 1417 Iroquois Pl. There is still time to join, Miss Hazel Keedle, children's librarian said. The contest lasts until school starts in September.
